Zaccheus
Zaccheus is a Gospel reggae
roots and soca artist who is driving to spread the message
of Jesus Christ through his story telling songs. He
states that before I sing I always pray that the song
I created blesses some one who is looking for joy and
fulfillment in their lives.
Zaccheus was born Wayne H.
Bacchus. His parents migrated from Guyana to the United
States in the early 1970’s. Wayne grew up listening
to Calypso stars like Arrow, Sparrow, Lloyd Kitchener
and Super Blue. Reggae influences are Yellow man, Papa
San, Buju Banton, Garnet Silk, Bob Marley, Luciano and
Stitche.
Wayne love for Caribbean music
grew ever since he was a youth. But what inspired him
to persue song writing and recording music as a career
was when he entered a contest during his high school
years, the contest required him to imitate any music
artist of his choice. Wayne and a friend chose a reggae/hip
hop collaboration hit song called “Forbidden”
by “Daddy O” and “Third world”.
Wayne and his friend came in third place, Wayne seen
the smiles on every ones face and decided this is what
he wanted to do.
On October of 1990 Wayne became
a born again Christian and got together with some friends
and formed a local Christian rap group called “the
temporary natives”. Wayne was the only reggae
singer in the group and was giving the name “Zaccheus”
because he was the shortest one in the group and stuck
with the name even after the group broke up.
In 1996 Zaccheus started his first solo recording in
“Dainjamental Studios” and completed an
album called “follow Jah” a reggae roots
album. On September of 2004 Zaccheus performed in Marcus
Garvey Park in Harlem N.Y.C
On Oct. 30, 2008 Zaccheus released
an album entitled “My Light Shine” and in
2010 the re-released project is called “My Light
